Union Minister Pralhad Joshi led the BJP’s rebuttal, accusing Gandhi of selective amnesia regarding Congress’s own historical violations of the Constitution, including the Emergency of 1975. Joshi remarked, “Rahul Gandhi needs a history lesson before lecturing others on constitutional values.”

Other BJP leaders ridiculed Gandhi’s focus on the alleged centralization of power under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They argued that the BJP has strengthened federalism by empowering states through direct financial devolution and the promotion of regional development schemes.

Responding to Gandhi’s claim that democratic institutions are being weakened, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra highlighted that under Modi’s leadership, Parliament has passed landmark reforms like the abrogation of Article 370 and the GST, which were long overdue. He added that such achievements reflect the government’s commitment to democratic principles and governance.

Social media further amplified the BJP’s counterattack, with party leaders and supporters questioning Gandhi’s understanding of constitutional provisions and his party’s alleged legacy of corruption and misgovernance.

While Gandhi’s speech sought to rally opposition unity, the BJP’s sharp rebuttals underscored its confidence in defending its governance record. With the 2024 general elections approaching, such debates are becoming a key battleground for political narratives, with both sides aiming to sway public opinion.
