With so much pressure on them as hosts and being in one of the tournament’s most difficult Groups, alongside Morocco and Brazil, having mental conditioning sessions is critical.
On the condition of anonymity, a player who signed the letter told this paper that the sessions ate into their rest time.
The sessions were usually very long and occurred when it was time to rest. Because we were preparing for the World Cup and needed to recover properly for the next day, we used to have high-intensity training every day.
While the sessions initially aided us, they became too exhausting later on. Players felt it was a waste of time, so we wrote the letter, the player explained.
According to sources, the federation did not want to hire a new mental coach so close to the big event.
