Mumbai City made only one change to their starting lineup, with Diaz replacing Alberto Noguera on the bench. After 21 minutes, the Islanders took the lead. The hosts were unable to clear a corner, and the ball bounced off several Blasters players before falling to Mehtab Singh, who smashed it into the back of the net.
Marko Leskovic’s poor defending allowed Diaz to go one-on-one with the keeper ten minutes later. The Argentine maintained his cool before scoring against his former club as the visitors doubled their lead.
Mongil’s goal came a minute after a brilliant last-ditch tackle denied Lallianzuala Chhangte.
The Mumbai City defense foiled numerous Blasters attempts. In the 33rd minute, Sahal Abdul Samad’s strike from a tight angle was comfortably saved by Phurba Lachenpa, before Rahul KP’s tame volley went wide.
Lachenpa saved a powerful swerving free-kick attempt from Adrian Luna three minutes later. The Kerala Blasters performed better in the second half. As the Mumbai City defence faced a barrage of Blasters attacks, the hosts managed to push the Islanders inside their own half.
In the 57th minute, Dimitrios Diamantakos’ low shot was palmed away by the keeper, and Jeakson Singh’s header from the resulting corner was inches wide. Luna’s effort from inside the box hit the post before landing at the feet of Jessel Carneiro as the game entered the final quarter. The fullback adjusted his footing and crossed the ball to Rahul KP, who headed wide.
The Blasters drove Mumbai City into their own half but failed to finish in the 18-yard box.
With two wins and two draws after four games in the ISL, Mumbai City moved into second place on the points table. They are one point behind leaders Odisha FC, and their next match is on November 6 at home against ATK Mohun Bagan FC.
The Blasters’ woes continue, as they remain ninth with just one win in four games. On November 5, they will travel to Guwahati to face NorthEast United FC.
