The Supreme Court recently stated that those who perform the two-finger test on alleged rape victims will be held accountable for their actions. This test is neither scientific nor moral. It determines whether or not a raped woman is used to sexual contact. It is not only immoral, but it is also unscientific and irrelevant for determining whether the ingredients of Section 375 (rape) of the IPC are present in a specific case. This is also acknowledged by the sitting bench, which renders the much-needed judgement to punish the person who conducted the test.
However In May 2013, the Supreme Court ruled that the two-finger test violates a woman’s right to privacy and ordered the government to develop better medical methods for proving sexual assault. However, this test was still performed on victims, and many people believe (and fear) that it will be repeated. The government is now responsible for ensuring that whoever performed this test on victims is punished, and there should be a proper mechanism in place to listen to victims’ complaints about the crime as well as the two-finger test (if it is conducted on them).Disgust reigns among the critics. Who gives any human being the right to test a woman like this, and how does this test prove anything?Citizens must take action or else the whims and fancies of these test makers will not be suppressed.Comment your thoughts below.
