The Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, inaugurated the India Pavilion at UNFCCC (COP 27) by saying that India believes that climate action starts at the grassroots, individual level, and hence designed the India Pavilion with the theme of LiFE: Lifestyle for Environment. The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, gave the mantra of LiFE to the world in 2021 at COP 26 in Glasgow, and this movement has since been widely supported by world leaders.
But what is the actual meaning of theme?
Mission LIFE is intended to mobilise at least one billion Indians and other global citizens to take individual and collective action to protect and preserve the environment between 2022 and 2027. By 2028, it is hoped that at least 80% of all villages and urban local bodies in India will be environmentally friendly.Don’t you think that the government has chosen the best theme, which has great significance in Indian society? Let’s see how.First of all, we used to respect our mother nature. In Indian society, each natural phenomenon was associated with God, and people used to worship it (like rain, water, fire, etc.). A great example is the Bishnoi community in the Jodhpur region of Rajasthan, for whom the protection of wildlife is part of their faith.Secondly, Indian culture is enmeshed with the practise of using products that can be easily reused or recycled. Like the Cooper water bottle, apart from the numerous health benefits associated with drinking water from copper water bottles, it is also a great way to ditch plastic water bottles.Well, the sad truth is that Indian society was used to this kind of lifestyle.rnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnAlso, it will be interesting to see if the government can get Indians to go back to their old ways of living, which would be very good for the environment. If this theme is successfully put into place, India will also take the lead in protecting the environment. What are your thoughts on this? Comment below.
