Yuzvendra Chahal, one of the team’s few players, did not get a single chance during the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2022. As the team management stuck with the multiple-finger spinner plan, the leg spinner was benched for the duration of the competition.
During a conversation, Kaif stated that Rohit Sharma is not a new captain and is familiar with his best-playing lineup.
Many people believe that not playing Chahal was a mistake, but they must recognise that Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid are well-known figures who are skilled at developing players and determining when to use them.
Kaif believes that Chahal, despite arriving in good shape and rhythm, would be disappointed if he was unable to compete. Even in the semi-final against England, the Men in Blue were constantly on the back foot, attempting to counter Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone’s leg spin. The leg-spinner relished bowling Australia’s long boundaries.
Along with Chahal, veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik was replaced in the squad for the final two games by wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who did not play.
Much has been said about Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid. Their failure to lead the Men in Blue to the finals of the Asia Cup 2022 and World Cup 2022, as well as their flop performance against England, are enough to shake fans’ faith in the coach-captain relationship.
However, when a veteran player like Kaif expresses his support, it goes a long way toward restoring faith.
