The man, Prakash Jairam Desai, was found guilty of letting his cows roam free on the streets and putting other people’s lives in danger. He was also given a two-year sentence by additional sessions judge Saranga Vyas for threatening a group from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s cattle nuisance control department (CNCD). The group was on their way to impound stray cattle.
In July 2019, a CNCD squad discovered five animals outside of Shahpur Darwaja, close to Shantipur Chhapra. A man of Shahpur named Prakash Jairam Desai was arrested. Desai mistreated the team members and even threatened to have the anti-corruption bureau agents arrest him . The individual has been charged under the Gujarat Police Act, Sections 308, 186, and 506(2) of the IPC, as well as the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. In its ruling, the court stated that two panch witnesses, who are also Desai, did not corroborate the prosecution’s case.But CNCD team members gave false testimony in his defence. The court ruled that IPC section 308 would not apply in this case because no one was hurt. However, the court ruled him responsible for endangering people’s lives by allowing his cows run uncontrolled on public highways without making the necessary preparations. On October 18, the Gujarat High Court stated that the state government’s efforts to address the problem of stray cattle have largely stayed on paper with no actual action. The court ordered the authorities to carry out the decisions made by the Gujarat High Court via PIL that were made in a related case.One of the main challenges in various states, including Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Rajasthan, has been the concern over stray cattle.
