hafali Verma, a gifted opening batswoman, was selected captain of India’s 15-person team on Monday for the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, which will take place in South Africa from January 14 to 29.
    The team was chosen by the All-India Women’s Selection Committee for both the inaugural U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup and the next bilateral away T20 series against South Africa U-19, which starts on December 17.The 18-year-old Shafali, who made her senior national team debut in 2019 and has since played in two Tests, 21 ODIs, and 46 T20 Internationals, will also captain the 18-member Indian team in the five T20 matches against South Africa U-19.The five T20 games will all take place at Tuks Oval in Pretoria on December 27, 29, 31, and, respectively, January 2 and 4. India has been assigned to Group D of the 16-team U-19 Women’s World Cup, along with South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, and Scotland. In the Super Six phase, where teams are divided into two groups of six each, the top three teams from each group advance.After that, the best two teams from each group advance to the semifinals, which will be held on January 27 at Potchefstroom’s JB Marks Oval.
