Riva Jadeja, the wife of cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, made an outstanding entry into the political arena by outpolling her closest challenger in the Jamnagar North constituency by 53570 votes.
Riva Jadeja received 88110 votes after 17 rounds of voting, while Karshan Karmur of the Aam Aadmi Party received 34818 votes, according to the Election Commission.Bipendrasinh Jadeja of the Congress party came in third with 23088 votes. In Jamnagar North, there was sibling rivalry at play as Ravindra Jadeja batted for his wife Rivaba and his sister Naynaba.
Jadeja’s campaign for the Congress brought attention to this urban district where, like much of Gujarat, voters once again supported the ruling party. After being created as a result of delimitation, the constituency cast its first vote in 2012. After the then-incumbent MLA Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, locally known as Hakubha, switched parties, the Congress won it, but the BJP seized it in 2017.Riva Jadeja was chosen this time instead of him. However, the BJP was able to appease Hakubha by appointing him as the party’s in-charge for voting in three Jamnagar assembly seats, including Jamnagar North.Jamnagar North, a large urban district, was long thought to favor the BJP over the Congress. The performance of the Aam Aadmi Party, which fielded a not-so-known face, has come as a surprise. The Jadejas are Rajputs, the community that dominates this constituency. Muslims make up the other decisive group of voters.
