At a news conference, States of Jersey Police Chief Officer Robin Smith revealed that two persons were being treated in a hospital following the event in the island’s capital, St. Helier, and that about a dozen people were still missing.

According to local news outlets, Robin Smith stated, Of course, there are a number of other people who are unaccounted for, and thus a search and rescue operation has begun.
He told that the incident was reported to local police just before 4 a.m. local time. He also added that emergency services then arrived on the scene and put out the fire and the three-story building has totally fallen and referred to the event as a devastating scene.
Numerous flats, he claimed.
Smith did not comment on the cause of the explosion, but he did say that the night before, fire services were called to the property after residents reported smelling gas.
