Adani Group’s goal is to increase the annual passenger capacity from 4 million passengers per year to 39 million passengers per year through the expansion project.
The Union Government approved the expansion plan on December 15, 2022.
As per Business Standard, however, the plan did not have a timeline.
Earlier, the Adani Group planned to invest over Rs 10,000 crore at the Ahmedabad airport between 2023 and 2027 to raise its passenger handling capacity and turn it into a regional hub.
Choudhary Charan Singh International Airport (CCSIA) in Lucknow presently has two operational passenger terminals: an international terminal (T1) and a domestic terminal (T2). A new integrated terminal building (T3) is under construction and located west of Terminal 1.
According to the plan, a new T4 terminal building will also be constructed to ensure the accommodation of 39 million passengers.
The Adani Group took control of Lucknow Airport in November this year. after they won the bid by AAI.
This was done as the central government privatised six major airports in the country in February 2019: Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, and Guwahati.
After a competitive bidding process, the Adani Group won the rights to run all of them for 50 years.
