The district collector of Theni, KV Muralidharan, said in a report, u201cEight devotees died after their car plunged into a 40-foot-deep pit at Kumily mountain pass in Theni district.u201d There were 10 people returning from Sabrimala Temple on Friday night, and due to the fog present, the driver lost control and hit the median. This resulted in the vehicle falling in a 40-feet ditch killing 7 people on the spot.Another passenger gave out while they were being carried to the hospital. Two have been admitted to the hospital and one of them is a three year old child.The police personnel of Kerela and Tamil Nadu were being pushed to perform a rescue operation.A case has been lodged in the police station and the heavy mist and fog present in the region is being suspected as the main cause of the accident.
