England all-rounder Sam Curran got the highest bid ever in an IPL auction as he surpassed the 18 crore mark, and Punjab Kings won the auction battle by bidding the final amount of Rs 18.5 crore. Sam Curran thus became the highest buy ever in the IPL.
Sam Curran was the young fellow everyone had an eye for.
Chennai Super Kings entered the auction with just 20 crores in their pockets and still managed to gamble it all on England’s captain Ben Stokes.
Most people say it was a masterstroke by Dhoni leading CSK, as Ben Stokes can be the new captain of CSK once Dhoni retires and CSK can continue their IPL journey with a smooth transition.
Ben Stokes was welcomed by CSK for 16.25 crores, one of the top prices of the auction in 2023, and broke many records.
We were very excited to get Stokes, and we were lucky also because he came up at the end. We wanted an all-rounder, and MS was very happy that we got Stokes. The captaincy option is there, but itu2019s a call MS will make with time. Kyle Jamieson was injured, so maybe many others didnu2019t look at him. We had information from Fleming that he had recovered and was raring to go. CSK looks bright, and I hope we do well this season. We follow the process always, and that will help us do well, Ms. Dhoni said, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
