While the men’s team took silver, the women finally made the podium after 16 years. The Indian women won gold at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester and silver four years later in Melbourne.
    The Indian women’s team finished third after defeating 2018 Gold Coast CWG champions New Zealand 2-1 in a penalty shootout.
    Toward the end of the year, the women proved that their CWG bronze medal was no fluke, defeating Spain 1-0 to win the inaugural FIH Nations Cup in Valencia and qualify for the 2023-24 FIH Pro League.
    The women proved they were no longer pushovers in world hockey by going undefeated in the Nations Cup, putting up stellar performances to reclaim their Pro League spot.
    The women finished third in their first Pro League season in 2021-22, but did not qualify for the 2022-23 season.
    The women’s team began the year on a high note, finishing third in the Asia Cup and defeating China 2-0 in the bronze-medal match.
    The Indians, on the other hand, narrowly missed out on a medal in the Junior World Cup after losing 0-2 to England in the bronze-medal game in Potchefstroom, South Africa, in April.
    To add salt to the wounds, India’s women finished ninth in the World Cup in Spain and the Netherlands, with one win, three draws, and two losses. They recovered well, however, and fought their way to the podium in Birmingham a month later.
