In the Open section, Sadhwani won seven times and drew three times. He was defeated twice by lower-ranked players, Evgeniy Najer and Denik Lazavik.
Nihal Sarin, another young GM, finished in 19th place with 8 points, while Arjun Erigaisi (7.5 points) finished in 35th place. In the women’s event, Indian ace Koneru Humpy (5 points) finished 44th, while Tania Sachdev recovered from a poor performance in the Rapid tournament to finish 10th with 6 points. Padmini Rout, who had six points as well, was in 19th place.
American Hikaru Nakamura leads the Open event with 10 points, while world No.1 Magnus Carlsen is tied for second with four others on 9 points. Nakamura is unbeaten in 12 rounds, while Carlsen is also unbeaten. Carlsen has had to draw his last five games.
After nine rounds, Russian players Valentina Gunina and Polina Shuvalova lead the women’s event with 7.5 points. On Friday, nine more rounds of the Open section will be played, while eight rounds of the women’s event will be played.
