The Delhi government said in a statement on Tuesday that the CM has approved the health department’s proposal to give Delhi residents free access to the best healthcare available. In the national capital’s government hospitals, polyclinics, and mohalla clinics, senior officials of the health department reported that 212 different types of tests are being administered without charge. The total has increased to 450 with the CM’s approval of 238 more.
According to a government statement, the state administration has decided to further raise the number of exam categories to 450 to provide assistance to the people who are already burdened by inflation. Kejriwal said providing good quality health and education to all, irrespective of their economic status, is his government’s mission. Providing good quality health and education to all, irrespective of anyone’s economic status, is our mission. Healthcare has become very expensive. Many people cannot afford private healthcare. This step will help all such people, he tweeted. The facility will be available to the people of Delhi.

The health department’s idea to offer more free testing so that patients do not have to use private institutions for pricey examinations was covered in a news report on October 25. Currently, government hospitals offer free random tests for things like haemoglobin, urine, stool, lipid profile, and blood glucose. The updated list will include additional tests for the liver, liver function, kidneys, diabetes, post-meal plasma, etc. Data supplied by the Delhi government earlier this year showed that patients from economically disadvantaged groups favoured the programme to offer free lab tests at government hospitals.
At least 52,479 patients had benefitted from the free testing facilities in 2017, when the scheme was first launched with basic tests. In 2018, the number rose to 63,765 and in 2019, 78,800 patients availed the facility at government hospitals. In 2020, the number dipped to 56,700 because of the focus of government hospitals on Covid-19 treatment, but the patient load spiked again to nearly 104,000 in 2021.
