The place holds high value because during winters, the deity from Badrinath is brought to Vasudeva temple in Joshimath. Pilgrims can thus see blessings from lord Vishnu in winter as well but the recent talk about the place is not related to the religious importance of that place but more about the geographical one.
    Joshimath is sinking! In Joshimath, Uttarakhand, as many as 561 residences have experienced cracking recently. Some roadways have also developed cracks. Both locals and the administration are concerned about the perception that Joshimath is sinking. Considering the cracks, people have been evacuating their homes and moving to safer locations. The prospect of a landslide causing a house to fall has grown to be a top concern for city residents.A rare protest was witnessed in Joshimath in response to land subsidence when impacted residents took to the streets with torches. In Joshimath, they were shouting anti-public sector energy conglomerate chants and attributing their deteriorating circumstances to the company’s project. People in Joshimath halted the Badrinath highway after discovering multiple deep fractures in their homes.But why is the place sinking? This condition is attributed to a phenomenon known as subsidence. It refers to the vertical sinking of land in a region. It consists of the Earthu2019s surface moving downwards vertically and involves little or no movement horizontally. The reason behind subsidence can be both natural causes or human actions.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has assured that necessary actions will be undertaken to save the residents in the district. He is set to visit the district to assess the situation. The need of the hour is to pay undivided attention to the condition of the hills.
