The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for Monday in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan due to the persistently severe cold wave conditions there. In Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, a chilly day to a severe cold day is forecast, while Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh are expected to experience a severe cold wave. In the meantime, a number of schools across the country have extended their breaks due to the weather. 
    Here are the most recent changes:  
    1. On Sunday night, the Uttar Pradesh government revised its notice regarding holidays in the state’s schools in light of the cold weather. The announcement states that all schools up to and including the eighth grade will be closed until January 14. The letter also stated that students in grades 9 through 12 would attend online lessons, and if classes were not held for whatever reason, a holiday would be declared until January 11.

    2. The Jharkhand government also announced earlier on Sunday that all public and private schools in the state would be closed to students in grades KG through 7 until January 14. Schools in Jharkhand are closed due to the cold wave conditions. 
    A chilly day and cold wave warning was issued by the IMD on Monday for Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh. In Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, there will be cold days to severe cold days; cold waves to severe cold waves in Punjab, Haryana, UP, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh, the IMD reported.
    4. In the meantime, the weather service also issued a fog alert for Northwest India on Monday. The IMD reported thick to very deep fog in Northwest India.
    5. On Monday at 5:30 a.m., the visibility in Amritsar was 25 metres, 25 metres in Ambala, and 0 metres in Bhatinda, Punjab. Hissar observed a 50-meter visibility.
