It is a small island in the Pacific area that was shook by the massive earthquake that was measured at 7.0 on the Richter scale. The centre of the earthquake was 23 km away from Port Olry, and the quake was 27 km deep.
A warning has been issued for a potential tsunami in the area. No immediate threats or deaths have been reported. The people residing near the port fled to higher ground, and after talking to a 22-year-old student from a village in Espritos Santos, the following came to be known: We were right on the sea; we were looking for crabs on the coast. We ran for our lives, and then we ran to our homes, said the boy. He also reported feeling a huge shaking in the earth. A nearby island called the Solomon Islands, in the north of Vanuatu, had also experienced a similar earthquake in November.The coastal region has been put on alert for such calamities.
