A snake was found in one of the containers in which lentils were stored. The children started feeling sick upon consuming such food and had to be rushed to the hospital immediately. One of the staff members who prepared the food also confirmed that there was a snake in the utensil.We had to rush the children to Rampurhat Medical College and Hospital as they started vomiting, he said.Around 30 children from Mayureshwar block had been admitted to the hospital.
Dipanjan Jana, the block development officer, told me that they have been receiving many complaints from parents about their children falling ill after eating the mid-day meals at school.I have informed the district inspector of primary schools, who will visit on January 10, Mr. Jana said.All the children except one have been discharged from the hospital, and the one still admitted is out of danger.
