India captain Rohit addressed the raging debate during the pre-match press conference prior to the first one-day international against Sri Lanka in Guwahati for the first time since the T20 World Cup defeat.
The 35-year-old clearly rebuffed Dravid’s remarks, stating that he has not yet chosen a format. The Hitman, in contrast to the head coach, insisted that the absence of senior players from the T20I squad should not be scrutinized in great detail. They were given a break to let them rest and manage their workload.
In addition, Rohit indicated that he might rejoin the Indian squad for the New Zealand T20Is.
First, it is impossible to play consecutive games. You must provide themu2014all format playersu2014with sufficient respite. That definitely applies to me as well. We face New Zealand in three T20Is. After the IPL, we’ll see what happens. During the press conference that preceded the first One-Day International (ODI) match against Sri Lanka, Rohit stated, I have not decided to give up the format.
Dravid’s comments from last week are completely at odds with Rohit’s assertion. The captain’s outspoken refutation of the head coach’s vision for the team’s future suggests that the two sides are not on the same page. Additionally, it demonstrates the distinct lack of communication between the two most powerful Indian cricket organizations.

The BCCI may have been delaying its decision to name Hardik Pandya as Team India’s new full-time T20I captain because Rohit is not yet ready to step down.
In the best interest of Indian cricket, it would be preferable for Rohit and Dravid to sit down together and thoroughly discuss all of these issues, if they haven’t already done so, rather than making contradictory statements in public.
