A total of 8.6 lakh candidates have registered for the JEE (MAIN) January 2023 session. Although the overall tally showed a decline of 6,000 candidates as compared to the previous year, there is an increase in the percentage of female candidates this year.
The male aspirants continue to dominate, accounting for over 6 lakh, or nearly 70%, of the registered candidates. However, for the first time, women account for over 30% of the candidates, although the increase in absolute numbers is marginal compared to 2022, i.e., from 2.5 lakh to 2.6 lakh.
