The screening of the contentious BBC documentary India: The Modi Question has been canceled, according to the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration. The action was taken after the Center instructed people to ban many YouTube videos and Twitter posts that contained links to the documentary. It might disturb the peace and serenity of the university campus, according to the authorities. Additionally, the administration claimed that no prior authorization had been revoked for this event.
The administration has learned that a group of students published a flyer for the screening of the documentary India: The Modi Question scheduled for January 24, 2023, at 9:00 p.m. in Teflas under the guise of JNUSU. The JNU Administration has not given its prior consent for this event. This is to underline the possibility that such an unauthorized activity could damage the campus’s peace and harmony. The concerned individuals or students are strongly encouraged to cancel the proposed program right away; otherwise, strict disciplinary action may be taken in accordance with University policies.
The documentary, which examines the fallout from the Gujarat riots of 2002 and casts doubt on Narendra Modi’s management of the unrest as the state’s chief minister at the time, was labeled a propaganda effort by the Center.
