Acting on information, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) agents stopped three travellers travelling from Bangkok to Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport on Sunday and found 18 non-indigenous animals, including snakes. Additionally, it resulted in the discovery of 139 animals belonging to 48 critically endangered and rare species in a farmhouse, where a racket was busted. It continued, With the assistance of Karnataka Forest Department officers, a search of their checked baggage resulted in the recovery of non-indigenous animals totaling 18 (4 monkeys and 14 reptiles). Following an immediate follow-up and questioning of the alleged wildlife smugglers, revenue intelligence officials and the state forest department conducted a raid on a farmhouse outside of the city and seized yet another collection of endangered species.The statement went on to say that there were evidences of money transactions to source non-indigenous species through the route of smuggling and buy-sell transactions on WhatsApp and other social media platforms.Rare and endangered species like Yellow and Green Anacondas, Yellow-Headed Amazon Parrots, Nile Monitors, Red Foot Tortoises, Iguanas, Ball Pythons, Alligator Gar, Yaki Monkeys, Veiled Chameleons, Racoon Dogs, White-Headed Piones, and others were among the over 139 animals that were found.
