Sohail Khan, a former Pakistan cricketer, recently made an astonishing revelation about his heated altercation with Kohli during the 2015 ODI World Cup. The former Pakistan medium-pacer claimed on a local chat show that when he walked out to bat, Kohli tried to sledge him and shut him down with a fitting response.
When I walked out to bat, Virat approached me and said, ‘aap cricket mein abhi aaye hain. And itni baatein karte ho (You’ve just arrived, and you’re already talking a lot). ‘Beta jab tu Under-19 khel raha tha na, tera baap Test cricketer tha,’ I said (Son, when you were playing Under-19 for India, your father [referring to himself] was a Test player). I used to play Test cricket. I played Test matches in 2006-07, Sohail said in a Nadir Ali YouTube video.
Then in between, I suffered a knee injury which forced me out of action. That’s exactly how I put it. Then Misbah stepped in, and he became enraged at me. He asked me to remain silent.
Dhoni approached him and said, ‘Side pe ho jao, purana chawal hai yeh’ (Step aside, he is an old folk). You’ve never met him, he added.
Sohail’s claim made the person sitting next to him who was asking him questions crack up. Aside from that, all he got was a massive backlash on social media. Naturally, Indian fans were outraged by his statement, but it turns out that even Pakistani supporters did not believe him.
In fact, one Pakistani journalist exposed the former speedster’s blatant lies in a video posted on the micro-blogging site. Sohail Khan claimed in the video that he made his Test debut in the 2006-07 calendar year, but in reality, he made his Test debut in February 2009.
The journalist, who has a verified Twitter account, then exposed another lie in which Kohli claimed that he had already become an international player while still playing for India Under-19.
The truth is that Sohail Khan and Virat Kohli both made their international debuts in 2008, the same year. Perhaps he didn’t understand the distinction between first-class and international cricket.
Sohail Khan isn’t the only Pakistani cricketer who has made shocking claims about Indian players. Many former cricketers make a living doing the same thing.
