Harbhajan Singh, the minister of power for Punjab, claimed that the PSPCL successfully fulfilled the increasing demand for electricity this year by making the best use of its resources. He claimed that 12% more electricity was needed (from 54,237 million units in January 2022 to 60,762 million units in January this year). The PSPCL enhanced its own thermal and hydel generation while also securing power from outside the state in order to accomplish this. Thermal generation from PSPCL’s own facilities at Ropar and Lehra climbed by 128% (2,736 MW) during the year.
In a similar vein, hydro generation from PSPCL’s own projects and BBMB climbed by 21% and 13%, respectively, from last year (2,946 million units to 3,567 million units) and 3,067 million units to 3,454 million units.
Along with an increase in its own generation, the minister reported that power banking with other states has also increased. According to him, the PSPCL has boosted its banking export by 83%, from 1,917 to 3,487 MUs.
