He informed Ganguly about the surface, and the then-Indian captain was unable to play in that Test due to an injury. While we are unsure whether these allegations against Ganguly are true, here are a few reasons why Virat Kohli was a better leader than Ganguly:
1. Unafraid Approach
Virat Kohli maintained his fearless attitude until his final day as captain. He could have taken the easy way out on occasion, but he refused to hide behind excuses.
The Johannesburg pitch was extremely difficult to survive in 2018, but Kohli refused to back down, saying that if South Africa wants to concede the game, fine, but his team will fight it out.
On the other hand, there is a claim against Ganguly that after seeing a pitch designed specifically for pacers, he backed down from facing the challenge, especially in India.
2. Increased Numbers
As a captain, it is critical to demonstrate to his team members how to carry out their responsibilities. Kohli batted from the front in almost every match in which he led Team India, and the opposition always wanted his wicket.
Ganguly has a respectable batting record, but he was not the standout batter in a team that included legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, and VVS Laxman.
On most occasions, these superstars did the majority of the team’s work, making Ganguly’s job easier.
3. More Victories Abroad
Virat Kohli is Indian cricket’s most successful Test captain. His numbers were not only about securing wins at home, but his team was no pushover even when they were not playing at home.
Kohli set a record with 16 wins away from home, and he was the first captain to win a Test series in Australia. Ganguly did win 11 international matches, but the majority of those victories came against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the West Indies.
