Even though we’re pleased to be offering this degree of specificity for the first time, we are aware that more needs to be done. According to her, TikTok would increase the number of state-controlled media labels it uses, step up its efforts to combat misinformation about Ukraine, broaden the scope of its fact-checking program across Europe to cover additional languages and increase the volume of claims it fact-checks.

    Additionally, the corporation would improve its advertising policies to better combat misinformation.
    According to TikTok, in the last six months, it has removed 191 advertisements that violated its policy against allowing political actors to advertise on its network and linked users to reliable resources for information about COVID-19, the Holocaust, the war in Ukraine, and other subjects.
    The assurances from TikTok came after its CEO Shou Zi Chew visited Brussels last month and tried to persuade the European Union that the app would adhere to the bloc’s increasingly strict tech regulations and commitments to privacy and child safety.
    The short-video app, which is owned by Chinese technology giant ByteDance, has been addressing US worries about whether the Communist Party of China or any other organisation under Beijing’s control may access and alter its material for the past three years.
    Following its revelation last month that some of its staff had inappropriately accessed the TikTok user data of two journalists in an effort to track down the source of information leaks to the media, the firm has been under heightened pressure.
