In a series of tweets, the former India bowling coach accused head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma of favoritism in team selection. KL Rahul, India’s designated vice-captain, once again flopped in a Test match, failing to capitalize on the start and being dismissed for 20 runs.
Despite his recent struggles, the 30-year-old was chosen by the team’s management, leaving young Shubman Gill on the bench.
Instead of sugar-coating his words, the former pacer launched a direct attack on the team management for giving too many chances to a player who averages 34 after playing 46 Test matches and has been consistently inconsistent.
He went on to say that he couldn’t think of another player with such a mediocre record getting such a long run in the team.
I have a lot of regard for KL Rahul’s talent and ability, but sadly his performances have been well below par. After 46 tests and more than 8 years in international cricket, a test average of 34 is considered average. I can’t think of many people who have had so many chances. Especially..cont, he wrote in his first tweet.
After criticizing Rahul and his poor statistics, the former India bowling coach went after Dravid and his team for selecting players based on reputation rather than recent form.
Rahul’s selection is based on favoritism rather than performance. Has been consistently inconsistent and for someone who has been around for 8 years has not converted potential into performances, one tweet in the same thread said.

Not only was the 53-year-old disappointed with Rahul’s performance, but also with the fact that he was given the vice-captaincy when other players such as Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Cheteshwar Pujara are permanent members of the Test team.
KL Rahul’s poor form is obvious to all, but few former cricketers have criticized him. Prasad said they keep their silence because they are afraid of losing lucrative IPL deals.
The legendary sprinter has raised some pertinent concerns. KL Rahul’s form has been below par. However, now that India has won the series opener in Nagpur, Rahul is likely to keep his spot in the team, pushing Shubman Gill to the bench.
