On Sunday evening, a 100-year-old cable bridge in Gujarat’s Morbi fell. It was barely 5 days ago that it was refurbished and reopened. Several persons were thrown into the stream below when the bridge fell.
Several people were killed, and many more were injured. Many rescue activities were ongoing until the morning involving personnel from the NDRF, Indian Air Force. Army, and Navy.
The municipality bridge reopened on October 26th despite the lack of a Morbi fitness certificate.Because of the festivals, there were a lot of tourists and people in general. At the moment of the tragedy, there were around 400 people on the bridge.On Sunday, CM Bhupendra Patel arrived and announced ex-gratia of Rs.4 lakhs for each victim’s family.The SDRF has eight platoons and the fire department has seven teams on the scene.The 230-meter bridge was constructed during British administration in the nineteenth century. Too many people in the middle of the bridge were trying to sway it from one direction to the other, said the Oreva organisation, which is responsible for its upkeep.A relative of BJP MP Mohanbhai Kalyanji Kundariya’s family was also killed in the Morbi Bridge collapse.Such carelessness should not be tolerated, and we pray that the victims can rest in peace.Leave your prayers in the comments below.
