The focus is now on his interrogation, which will be intended to create a strong case under the strict National Security Act, even though doubts about how he managed to elude the police for so long are still being raised.

Amritpal is accused of various crimes, including extortion, kidnapping, and attempted murder. In order to gain his aide’s release two months prior, Amritpal’s supporters attacked the Ajnala police station. At the time, Amritpal had threatened Home Minister Amit Shah with a fate akin to that of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Even with such flagrant contempt for the law, the Punjab Police didn’t start operating until the Centre pushed them to.
It was immediately clear that Amritpal had been forced upon Punjab because Khalistan had yet to find any supporters in that province. He appears to be pursuing the goals of anti-national forces looking to cause disturbance in the border state once more after dressing up as Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.
Following the police crackdown in Punjab, the attacks on the Indian High Commission in London and the Indian Consulate in San Francisco exposed the insidious involvement of religious radicals located in the West.

Establishing Amritpal’s connections to secessionist organisations and Pakistan’s ISI will be difficult for central agencies. The citizens of Punjab have unwavering faith in the democratic system. The Aam Aadmi Party’s overwhelming victory in the Assembly elections last year serves as ample proof of this.
The state has lost its desire for violence after seeing so much murder in the 1980s and 1990s. The onus is on the state and federal governments to make sure that Amritpal-like pseudo-preachers with a taste for religious fancy dress are not holding the renowned land of farmers and soldiers ransom.
