Amritpal is accused of various crimes, including extortion, kidnapping, and attempted murder. Establishing Amritpal’s connections to secessionist organisations and Pakistan’s ISI will be difficult for central agencies. The citizens of Punjab have unwavering faith in the democratic system. The Aam Aadmi Party’s overwhelming victory in the Assembly elections last year serves as ample proof of this.
The state has lost its desire for violence after seeing so much murder in the 1980s and 1990s. The onus is on the state and federal governments to make sure that Amritpal-like pseudo-preachers with a taste for religious fancy dress are not holding the renowned land of farmers and soldiers ransom.
