Australia have rested their Test regulars for their home T20I series against Pakistan, with a captain yet to be named, choosing to focus on the marquee Border-Gavaskar series against India next month. Australia host Pakistan for three ODIs starting November 4, followed by the three-match T20I series, from November 14. The series concludes on November 18, just four days before the first Test against India in Perth

With T20I captain Mitchell Marsh, Travis Head, and ODI and Test skipper Pat Cummins unavailable, Australia are yet to appoint a captain for the series. None of the players named in the squad announced on Monday have captained Australia in any format before, but the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Adam Zampa, Matthew Short, and Aaron Hardie have led their sides in the Big Bash League. Josh Inglis is also in the mix to lead the side

Pacers Xavier Bartlett (side strain), Nathan Ellis (hamstring), and Spencer Johnson (side strain) return to the squad after recovering from injuries. “It is particularly encouraging to have Xavier, Spencer, and Nathan back in the national setup,” said selection chief George Bailey. “It’s another opportunity for them to continue to show their ability on the international stage, as they have done in the past.”

Andre Borovec will serve as the coach for the team, a position he held during a five-match T20I series against India that followed last year’s ODI World Cup. Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, and Adam Zampa are the players named in the squad

Australia’s white-ball series against Pakistan will begin with ODIs on November 4. Cricket Australia has announced its 13-member squad for the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan, starting on November 14. The squad sees the return of pace trio Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, and Spencer Johnson from injury while resting their Test players ahead of the crucial India series. Meanwhile, the selection committee has yet to announce the captain as recent T20I captains Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head are unavailable

The three-match series, scheduled to begin in Brisbane and be followed by matches in Sydney (November 16) and Hobart (November 18), is a good opportunity for Australia to test its depth with several key players absent. “This group of players have all represented Australia in T20 cricket, so we look forward to them continuing to enhance their international experience throughout this series,” said Bailey. “We are excited by the mix of experience combined with those closer to the start of their international journeys.”

The series will also see changes in the coaching department, with assistant coach Andre Borovec taking charge as head coach Andrew McDonald, batting coach Michael Di Venuto, and bowling coach Daniel Vettori preparing for the India Test series. Former Australian batter Brad Hodge joins as an assistant coach

The final T20I is being played in Hobart on November 18, with the first Test against India beginning on the other side of the country on November 22. “It is inevitable given the yet-to-be-picked Test squad will assemble in Perth ahead of the series opener against India midway through the three-T20 bout against Pakistan,” Bailey added

Australia’s Test stars will miss the T20 series against Pakistan, leaving the door ajar for a new skipper to take the reins. Josh Inglis, Adam Zampa, and Matt Short are in the mix to fill in for Marsh as T20 skipper against Pakistan after none of the Test incumbents were picked in a 13-man squad for the games in Brisbane, Sydney, and Hobart
