What’s good?An Action Hero’s greatest strength is filmmaker Anirudh Iyer’s determination to tell this unique revenge story. His narrative style keeps readers engaged. The screenplay has amazing one-liners and shocking moments. The first half is fast-paced with fascinating incidents. The storyline keeps you fascinated from India’s setup to Akshay Kumar’s flight block to Manav, the cops, and Bhoora’s London chase. The second half, especially the climax, is good, although audiences may react differently. The lively background score matches the film’s tempo and mood, a win for the team. The action scenes also are unexpectedly well-designed, well-shot, and well-written, as they are not just additions, but genuinely carry the tale ahead. The film’s highlight is Akshay Kumar’s 5-minute appearance, which will have audiences in stitches. His chat with Ayushmann is one of the year’s greatest. What’s not?The second half of An Action Hero’s screenplay is repetitive. Sometimes you wonder, why aren’t the characters killing each other? The picture briefly veers off course, but the director pulls all the strings and brings the tale back on track with the protracted climax. The entire underworld track doesnu2019t work in the initial few frames, and the entire technique of generating a parody out of the current terrible state of Indian media is stretched beyond comprehension. TRP projections are accurate, but the track may have been reduced.Acting reviews:Ayushmann Khurrana’s action debut is his most heroic. As the story progresses, his body language changes from that of a superstar. He brings in numerous hues to the persona and passes the test of getting into the slightly masculine area with flying colours. Jaideep Ahlawat plays Bhoora well, and his straight-faced words characterise dark comedy. His rage makes the film enjoyable. Akshay Kumar’s appearance is amusing, and it’s great to see him in an urban role this year. Jitender Hooda and Hiten Patel excel in small roles. The ensemble performs effectively in their restricted parts.Final VerdictAn Action Hero is a smartly written action thriller, whereby the director follows his belief to find the perfect balance in the genre with some humour and whacky circumstances. This Ayushmann Khurrana film’s ending redeems the second half’s repeated conflict. Weekend Worth-A-Dekho.
