In a surprising turn of events, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly approached former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir to replace Rahul Dravid as Team India’s head coach. The news was first reported by leading Indian media outlet The Times of India on Tuesday.

Gambhir, who retired from all forms of cricket in December 2018, has been working as a commentator and analyst in recent times. However, he has expressed his interest in coaching the Indian team in the past and has also worked as a mentor for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the past.

On the other hand, Rahul Dravid, who was appointed as the head coach of India’s limited-overs teams for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour, has been touted as a front-runner for the head coach role of the Indian team. Dravid has also been praised for his work with the Indian cricket team’s next generation of players as the head of the National Cricket Academy.
The decision to approach Gambhir for the head coach role comes after reports suggesting that Ravi Shastri is set to step down as the head coach of the Indian team after the T20 World Cup in October-November this year.
The BCCI is yet to comment on these reports. However, if true, the appointment of Gambhir as India’s head coach would mark a significant change in the approach of the Indian cricket board, as Gambhir is known for his straightforward and uncompromising attitude towards the game.
It remains to be seen who will ultimately take up the role of head coach of the Indian cricket team. But, for now, the news of Gambhir being approached for the job has sent shockwaves through the cricketing fraternity, and fans are eagerly waiting to see how this story develops.
