The ongoing controversy over the 2025 Champions Trophy, set to be hosted by Pakistan, has brought up the issue of a hybrid model, especially concerning India’s participation. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) initially advocated for all matches, including India’s, to be hosted in Pakistan. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has raised security concerns and is unlikely to send the Indian team to Pakistan. In response, the International Cricket Council (ICC) proposed a hybrid model, where India’s matches could be played in neutral venues like Dubai or Sharjah, while other matches take place in Pakistan.

Despite this solution, PCB has expressed dissatisfaction, seeking a guarantee from the ICC that all of Pakistan’s matches in future events hosted by India would also be held at neutral venues. They also requested a larger share of the annual revenue. The BCCI, however, is reportedly not inclined to agree to these additional conditions, particularly the suggestion that, should Pakistan make the finals, the match be moved from India to another neutral venue, which the BCCI has objected to.

This ongoing disagreement reflects the complex nature of hosting international events, balancing logistical, political, and security concerns. The situation remains fluid, with both parties continuing to discuss potential solutions. The ICC’s intervention will likely play a crucial role in resolving the issue.
