Canada, just in their second FIFA World Cup, nearly upset the odds of winning against Belgium.
Canada was awarded a penalty in the ninth minute, giving Alphonso Davies a golden opportunity to score his country’s first World Cup goal and put them ahead of a star-studded Belgian side. The penalty was saved by Belgium keeper Thibaut Courtois, who dived in the right direction.
Michy Batshuayi scored for Belgium in the closing stages of the first half, giving them a halftime lead. Toby Alderweireld retrieved the ball from deep and buried it in the far corner. Despite Belgium’s 1-0 lead in the first half, Canada had more shots on goal as they looked to exploit gaps left in Belgium’s 3-4-3 formation. In the second half, the Red Devils took control of the game, stopping Canadian strikes while also piercing deep into the Canadian half.Comment down your thoughts.
