The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) tally in the Rajya Sabha has decreased to 86 seats, causing the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to fall below the majority mark. This shift is partly due to the loss of some seats and the impact of recent elections.

Despite the BJP being the single largest party in the Upper House, with 90 seats following the latest updates, the NDA now has only 117 seats in total, short of the 121 needed for a majority in the 240-member house .

The decline in the NDA’s numbers poses a challenge for the ruling coalition, which will now have to rely more heavily on support from non-aligned and smaller parties to pass legislation
