India strongly protested the incident, which the Ministry of External Affairs called “disturbing,” and summoned the deputy high commissioner of Canada on Monday.

According to New Delhi, such activities not only harm ties between India and Canada but also foster a violent and criminal environment in that country. The relationship between the two countries has been strained since Trudeau declared in September of last year that Canadian agencies were looking into claims that Indian agents killed Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who the Indian National Investigation Agency (NIA) had classified as a terrorist.

But Canada hasn’t provided any evidence to support the accusations, which India quickly rejected as “absurd.” India has maintained that its main grievance with Canada is still the freedom granted to separatists, terrorists, and anti-Indian groups in that nation, and it has asked Ottawa on multiple occasions to provide reliable proof in the Nijjar case.Additionally, New Delhi has objected to a Washington Post article that named an Indian official accused of hatching a plot to kill Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a terrorist designated by the NIA.

India has stated that “unwarranted and unsubstantiated” allegations about a serious subject are made in the report. The Indian government has already established a high-level group to look into security concerns the Biden administration had regarding terrorist and criminal networks. The US must make sure that its territory is not exploited by troublemakers to incite anti-India sentiment, since it has confirmed that India has been treating the Pannun matter seriously.
