The recent collapse of a canopy at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has ignited a blame game between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Both parties are pointing fingers at each other over the structural failure of the airport roof, which was inaugurated in 2009 during the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

Congress leaders have defended their administration, asserting that the canopy was built to international standards and implying that subsequent neglect under the BJP-led government may have contributed to its collapse. They argue that the current government’s oversight and maintenance of the airport infrastructure have been inadequate, suggesting that better upkeep could have prevented the incident.

On the other hand, the BJP has countered by criticizing the Congress for the original construction quality and planning. They claim that the foundation of the problem lies in the initial design and construction decisions made during the Congress regime. BJP representatives argue that the Congress should take responsibility for the poor-quality infrastructure developed under its governance.

As the two parties continue to exchange accusations, the focus on accountability remains clouded by political rhetoric. Meanwhile, concerns are rising among the public and frequent travelers about the safety and reliability of one of India’s busiest airports. Both parties are under pressure to ensure a transparent investigation and take concrete steps to enhance the airport’s infrastructure integrity.
