According to sources, the CBI is investigating allegations of corruption in the excise policy implemented by the Delhi government in 2015-16. The agency suspects that certain officials of the Delhi government may have colluded with private companies to issue licenses for liquor shops in violation of norms, resulting in a loss of revenue for the government. The CBI has already arrested several officials of the Delhi government, including a former principal secretary to the Chief Minister, in connection with the case. The agency has also conducted raids at several premises across Delhi in search of evidence.
The summons to the Chief Minister has come as a surprise to many, and the move has been criticized by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which Kejriwal heads. The AAP has accused the CBI of acting at the behest of the central government and trying to target Kejriwal for political reasons.Kejriwal has denied any wrongdoing and has called the CBI’s move a political vendetta. In a tweet, he said, I have not done anything wrong. The CBI’s summons is a political conspiracy to defame me and the AAP.
The summons to Kejriwal has also led to a war of words between the AAP and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is in power at the Centre. While the BJP has defended the CBI’s action, the AAP has accused the party of using the agency as a tool to target its political opponents.
The excise policy scam case is the latest in a series of controversies that have rocked the Delhi government in recent years. The AAP, which came to power in Delhi in 2015, has been at loggerheads with the central government over several issues, including the distribution of powers between the state government and the Lieutenant Governor. The CBI’s summons to the Chief Minister is likely to add fuel to the already heated political climate in the capital and could have wider ramifications for the political landscape in the country.
