Last Sunday saw the conclusion of the 2023 Academy Awards without any scandalous incidents or embarrassing slaps. Even if there is still a long way to go in terms of gender equity and representation, it was undoubtedly a tremendous night for international stars. In all categories, there were 62 international nominations as opposed to 63 Domestic ones.
The Best Actress prize was first won by an Asian, Michelle Yeoh. Asians have often been stereotyped as the supporting cast for primary, White characters. Nonetheless, the Academy received criticism for the absence of Indian dancers during the on-stage performance of the Best Song winner, Naatu Naatu.
Statement jewellery was one style that caught attention on the red carpet. Sofia Carson wore Chopard jewellery, while Deepika Padukone opted for a Cartier necklace with a yellow diamond drop. Angela Bassett was wearing a serpentine Bulgari necklace.
