In a landmark event aimed at enhancing cognitive skills among girls and promoting sports tourism, the AICF Smart Girl FIDE Rating Championship has commenced in Bhadarwah, Jammu and Kashmir. This national-level chess tournament, the first of its kind in the Chenab region, sees 56 participants from 11 states competing over five days.

    The tournament was inaugurated by SP Bhadarwah Vinod Sharma and CEO of the Bhadarwah Development Authority (BDA), Bal Krishan. The event is being mentored by national champion Arushi Kotwal of Bhadarwah and is organized by the All India Chess Federation (AICF) in collaboration with the Bhaderkashi Chess Federation and the Amazing Bhadarwah Tourism Association.

    CEO Bal Krishan expressed optimism that the tournament would elevate Bhadarwah’s profile on an international level and attract sports tourism. “This event will put Bhadarwah on the global chess map and highlight its potential as a sports tourism destination,” Krishan said.

    SP Vinod Sharma highlighted the event’s potential to inspire local youth to engage in intellectual pursuits like chess instead of spending excessive time on mobile devices. “This championship is a great initiative to encourage our youth to develop their mental skills and stay away from unhealthy habits,” he remarked.

    Trina Sen Gupta, a participant from West Bengal, shared her initial apprehension about traveling to the remote area, which has since transformed into a memorable experience. “The venue and its surroundings are breathtaking. It has been an unforgettable experience,” she said.

    The championship is not only a significant step in promoting chess but also showcases Bhadarwah’s scenic beauty, offering participants a unique blend of competitive play and natural splendor. This initiative marks a notable effort in fostering a love for chess among young girls while promoting the region as a prime location for sports tourism
