India has strongly protested the new map with China. Chinese territorial claims are a old habit, according to Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, while the Congress, the largest opposition party, has called China’s claims on Arunachal Pradesh absurd, illogical, and historically incorrect. President Xi’s anticipated trip to India for the G20 conference next week is likely to be overshadowed by China’s cartoon action, which seems to be a further provocation.
Arunachal Pradesh has ‘always been and will always be’ a vital component of the nation, according to New Delhi. China doesn’t appear to care about respecting India’s territorial integrity, though. In December of last year, a battle between Indian and Chinese forces took place in Tawang in Arunachal.

In response to China’s bluster, India must stand its ground and keep a vigilant eye on things. Despite China’s history of being an untrustworthy neighbor, India has maintained open channels of contact and has never been afraid to voice its legitimate concerns. Beijing must hold substantive discussions with New Delhi and demonstrate that it is serious about de-escalation and disengagement in border regions by acting in a verifiable way on the ground.
