Clarification by environment Minister on genetically modified crops.

On October 18, the Environment Ministryu2019s Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC) cleared the proposal for the commercial cultivation of genetically modified (GM) mustard.
Speaking on genetically modified crops Bhupender Yadav who is union minister for environment, forests, and climate change made some comments in favor of clarifying why this decision is taken. He was at the express adda program of the Indian Express. 
Before knowing what union minister Bhupender Yadav said let’s just quickly know what is GM(genetically modified) crops. 
Genetically modified crops are plants used in agriculture, the DNA of which has been modified using genetic engineering methods. And what is concern over it? The concern is related to unapproved  GMFs which could cause antibiotic resistance, allergenicity, nutritional changes, and the formation of toxins. 
So usually government in India first does scientific research and then drew a conclusion on whether or not to approve a crop to be genetically modified. The result is only one crop in India has been approved for commercial cultivation which is Bt cotton.
So clarifying the doubts of people Bhupender Yadav said For any country to progress, do they not need scientific research? Should new scientific re- search and scientific innovation be used or not? If Delhi University has done thorough scientific research (in GM mustard), then should we not even try this for two years or not? GM crops will help the country tremendously in food security. Around 55-60 percent of the cooking oil that is consumed in the country is imported from countries where GM foods are permitted. So, we can import from these countries but we can’t produce (GM crops of) our own?
He also talked about the concern related to GM’s effects on bees. Answering to that he said to present a study on the impact on the bee to us and we will consider it. Clearly unscientific baseless theory was the thing he was disapproving of.
Union minister Bhupender Yadav’s stand was clear, he supported the clarification of including mustard in GM crops. Since India is working towards the path of Aatmanirbharta country needs to be self-reliant on food also in the coming days. Made it clear till now we are consuming mustard which is genetically modified since from the countries mustard is imported have allowed genetic modification in the crops. So why not India?
