Beijing continues to assert irrational claims to the entirety of the South China Sea, shoving aside other interested parties like the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei, and Taiwan. This is the case even after the UNCLOS-established Arbitral Tribunal ruled against China in 2016.Evidently, resentful countries are banding together to attack China. India and its allies are sternly warning China that it can no longer abuse its power and get away with it.
The Philippines’ long-running battle with China has received support from fellow Quad member Australia, whose Prime Minister Anthony Albanese declared the 2016 arbitral judgement to be final and binding.Despite Chinese Premier Li Qiang’s declaration that Beijing will continue to firmly support the United Nations’ leadership in world affairs, China’s flagrant contempt for the UNCLOS belies the reality on the ground.

A breakthrough in electromagnetic detection technology under complex deep-sea terrain conditions, breaking the West’s technological monopoly has been attributed to the exercise. Unrelenting China is determined to keep its competitors on their toes, but they are speaking up more and more to show their discontent.
