While his immediate goal is to help Chennai Super Kings win their fifth IPL title in the coming months, his long-term goal is to impress selectors and make India’s ODI World Cup squad. Chahar understands that Team India has a plethora of world-class fast bowlers, and that bowling alone may not be enough to get him in.
That is why he wishes to present himself as an alternative to star all-rounder Hardik Pandya, India’s only fast-bowling all-rounder. The 30-year-old believes he can swing the ball both ways while travelling at 140kph. He believes that once he is able to do it consistently, there will be no stopping him.
In addition, he has been working hard to improve his batting skills in order to compete for the position of fast-bowling all-rounder, which has little competition. I used to focus on one thing: the day I can consistently bowl around 140kph and swing the ball both ways, I won’t have any trouble getting anyone out, Chahar told Sports Tak.
With the bat, I want to contribute as much as possible. A fast bowler who can also bat will always find a spot in the Indian team. My sole motivation is to achieve that level. Performance and selection will follow, He went on to say.
A fast bowling allrounder has less competition. There is only Hardik Pandya. He is the world’s best allrounder and will always have a place, whether he plays today or in a year. A player with such a skill set is valuable Chahar stated.
It’s fantastic that Chahar doesn’t want to limit himself to being a medium pacer and instead wants to broaden his horizons and explore other aspects of his game.
source: sports takHe’s doing it, however, for all the wrong reasons. He wants to be a fast-bowling all-rounder not because he enjoys bowling fast, but because there is less competition in that position.
That, in my opinion, is not a good example for the young children who look up to him. This faulty reasoning will not get him anywhere.
