The decision to grant voting rights to aldermen without having them choose the mayor, deputy mayor, and members of the civic body’s standing committee resulted in three consecutive House meetings being postponed in the past month amid disturbance and uproar. After the civic elections in December of previous year, the House was initially seated on January 6. However, after heated arguments between BJP and AAP members, the session was adjourned.
The second municipal House was suspended on January 24 following the oath taking ceremony, and the pro-team presiding officer again suspended it until the next date. Following that, the House was again adjourned last Monday for the third time, one month after the first municipal House.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), meantime, has claimed that the BJP is suffocating democracy and the Indian Constitution, making it impossible to hold the mayoral election. The AAP, on the other hand, was accused by the saffron party of fabricating reasons to delay the mayoral election, according to PTI.
The mayor and deputy mayor must be chosen during the very first House session following the municipal elections, as per the Delhi Municipal Corporation (DMC) Act, 1957. However, two months have passed since the municipal elections, and Delhi still lacks a mayor. The Aam Aadmi Party gained up to 134 seats out of a total of 250 in the Delhi municipal elections, which were held on December 4 and the results of which were made public on December 7.
Before being reorganised into a single MCD, which officially began operations on May 22, last year, the civic body in Delhi had 272 wards spread among its three corporations, NDMC, SDMC, and EDMC, which operated from 2012 to 2022. The Municipal House in Delhi on February 6 failed to elect a mayor following a ruckus over the decision to allow aldermen to vote in the mayoral poll, even as AAP alleged a u2018planned conspiracyu2019 by the BJP to stall the process.
Will Delhi elect a new mayor, or will there be another brawl?
