No one among the numerous onlookers and pedestrians intervened or called the police while she was being repeatedly stabbed and bashed by a 20-year-old, apparently her lover. Although it makes sense that some people might be afraid and flee the crime scene, the stunning camera footage of the scenario shows them passing by in a nonchalant manner. Nobody stepped forward to save the victim. Nobody sounded the alarm.

The girl might have been saved, according to the authorities, if someone had intervened to stop the murderer. The victim’s relatives won’t be greatly comforted by the accused’s quick arrest. It is utterly astounding that he has no regrets at all.
But what about those who choose to ignore a brutal murder that was taking place right in front of them? What does it say about the safety of the women who live in the nation’s capital? Is Delhi’s population just indifferent as a result of the normalization of violence? Ironically, this occurred in a place where it is normal to see a strong form quickly to provide assistance to an accident victim.
The murder in Delhi serves as a terrible reminder of the killer’s own deeply ingrained patriarchal values. Political finger-pointing over the deteriorating law and order situation is not the time to do so. The incident must lead to thoughtful consideration and discussion of the revolting public behavior. To address the issue, civil society, the police, and political activists must all work together.
