Messi, regarded as one of the greatest football players of all time, led Argentina to World Cup victory last year. Following Argentina’s victory, Prime Minister Modi congratulated the team on social media.
This will go down in history as one of the most exciting football matches! Congratulations to Argentina on winning the #FIFAWorldCup! They’ve been outstanding throughout the tournament. Millions of Indian fans of Argentina and Messi celebrate the magnificent victory! Modi tweeted after the World Cup final.
Messi led Argentina to their first World Cup title since 1986, scoring seven goals and assisting on several others. Diego Maradona was famously the captain when they had won the title then and the legendary late footballer had once named Messi as his heir.
The 35-year-old later stated that he would have preferred if Maradona had presented him with the trophy. I would have liked him to see all of this even if he didn’t hand me the World Cup trophy, Messi said on the Spanish radio show Perros de la Calle. I think he and many people who love me were pushing from above, not just for this but for everything, he continued.
Messi also expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that he lost his cool following Argentina’s dramatic and tense quarter-final match against the Netherlands. During an interview after the game, the Paris Saint-Germain star was seen yelling at Netherlands striker Wout Weghorst, and he was also seen confronting Netherlands coach Louis Van Gaal and his staff.
source: Narendra ModiIt came out of nowhere. I was aware of everything that had been discussed prior to the game, including what Van Gaal had said. I don’t like what I did, he said of a goal celebration he directed at the Netherlands coach.
I reacted that way, he explained, referring to his yelling at Weghorst. With this player, there have been many things, moments of tension like these… It had just happened while I was in the mixed zone. I don’t like leaving that image, but these things happen, Messi explained.
