Punjab elections are proposed to take place between April 9 and April 13, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa elections are proposed to take place between April 15 and April 17. In order to pressure the government into holding early general elections, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party prematurely dissolved the provincial assemblies in the two provinces this month.
The federal government, however, resisted caving into the pressure and has thus far been determined about holding elections on schedule after August of this year. Because caretaker of The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced the dates of the provincial elections since caretaker governments were put in place in the two provinces and elections have to be held within 90 days after the dissolution of the assembly.

On January 22, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi was sworn in as the interim chief minister of Punjab, while on January 21, Mohammad Azam Khan was named the head of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Just four days after the Punjab Legislature was dissolved on January 14, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly was dissolved on January 18.
The ECP highlighted Article 224 of the Pakistani Constitution, which mandates that general elections for assemblies be held within 90 days of the legislature’s adjournment, in separate letters to the chief secretaries of the governor of the two provinces. What do you think about this?
